So, this is Beckham. A chihuahua mix that I’ve been fostering for a neighbor for two weeks now. He has been up for adoption twice now with no takers, so he keeps ending up with me. I’m not sure I’m ready for another dog yet, but this one is starting to attach himself to me. He’s not what I ever pictured myself having…a small, male dog. But he is cute, friendly, housebroken, and doesn’t eat much. Sounds like I’m convincing myself, huh?

Today we elected our first black president. I found myself in tears as they called the election in Obama’s favor on the news. For the first time I feel actual hope for the people and fabric of this country.
At this moment, however, I also feel a certain sadness as it appears Prop 8 is going to win, preventing gay marriage and annulling the more than 20,000 same-sex marriages that have been celebrated since June. Bigotry is not yet dead.

OK, Madonna. If you haven’t exercised yourself into oblivion by the time you’re 67, you’ll still never hold a candle to this woman.
